The City of Des Plaines is excited to announce that Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS) will become the City’s new waste and recycling hauler, starting on March 1, 2021. Residents will continue to have the same scheduled service day and continue to pay the same amount.
LRS crews worked through the weekend (2/27 and 2/28) delivering thousands of carts to residents. LRS will continue delivering carts as quickly as possible over the next few days. Drivers will be collecting all loose bags and servicing personal carts until all carts are delivered.
There have been a few isolated customers that requested a larger recycling cart and have not received them yet. These customers at a minimum will receive the default 65 gallon recycling cart and will receive the larger cart within the next two weeks.
The extreme winter weather that hit Texas and much of the U.S. impacted deliveries and put us behind schedule. We recognize that not having a cart to place your garbage is not ideal. We ask for your patience and understanding. Rolling out a new service and collecting and delivering 32,000 carts (2 per customer) is a big effort, and the historic Polar Vortex unfortunately created some unexpected delays.
Please note that LRS Carts are both BLUE. Trash carts are indicated with "Landfill Only" on the lid. Recycling carts have a lighter blue lid and have a sticker with recyclable materials.
Some other updates:
- If your neighbors got a cart and you did not, it’s likely that you requested a different size (rather than the default cart). Those will be delivered on another truck.
- If you received carts that are the wrong size and/or there are defects or other issues, you can reach out to LRS directly by dialing 844.NEED.LRS or by emailing them at Service@LRSrecycles.com.
- If your Republic/Arc carts have not been picked up, please leave them on the curb. Republic will be picking those up soon.
