2016 Contract B - Construction Update 8/17/16

Cornell Avenue (State to Harvard)

The new water main construction is complete, and it has passed the pressure test.  The contractor is currently in the process of chlorinating and testing the water for safe drinking.

Storm sewer construction will begin this week from State to Drake. Once this block of storm sewer is completed, the contractor will begin transferring the water service for each residence from the old water main to the new water main.  Your water will be turned off for approximately 15 minutes during this transfer.  You will be notified prior to this work activity.  If your existing water service line from your meter to the sidewalk is made of lead, you will be notified and given additional information.

Cambridge Road (Northwest Highway to Wisconsin)

Work on Cambridge is currently on hold.  We are waiting for Nicor Gas to lower multiple gas service lines that are too high and in conflict with the new road base.  Once the gas services have been lowered, the contractor will return to remove the dirt at the old gas service areas and replace it with stone.  Once this activity is completed, one side of sidewalk will be scheduled to be removed and replaced, as necessary.  The curb and driveway aprons will then be poured.  One side of Cambridge will be completed at a time to prevent all residents from losing driveway access at the same time.

Rusty Drive (Touhy to Parkwood)

The contractor has removed 2" of the existing pavement.  Weather permitting, Public Works plans to repave Rusty on Tuesday, August 16, and Wednesday, August 17.

Debra Drive (Marshall to Lillian) & Locust Street (Welwyn to Howard)

The contractor removed 2" of pavement from Debra and Locust on Tuesday, August 16. Public Works will next prepare the pavement for resurfacing on Thursday, August 18. Paving is scheduled for the middle of next week, weather permitting.
