Special Garbage Pick-up to Assist Residents with Clean-Up

In an effort to assist residents with storm clean-up, residents can place water damaged household items at the curb for disposal on their regular garbage day. PLEASE NOTE: Only flood damaged items will be accepted as part of this special pick-up service.

Water damaged refuse will be collected on residents’ normal garbage day through Friday, August 4, 2017. To ensure efficient pick-up, click here to view the guidelines that must be followed.

Local Road Closures Updated To Ensure Traffic Saftey

JULY 24, 2017 @ 12:00 pm: The City of Des Plaines has opened some previously closed roadways in the area. Other roadways remain closed to ensure traffic safety. Click here for a PDF of the most current map of affected roadways.­

The public can also stay informed of all emergency updates by calling 847-391-5543 for a recorded message. All emergency calls should be directed to the Police Department’s 9-1-1 number. Click here to view a list of full road closures.

Resolution of RLUIPA Dispute

On June 6, 2017, the City of Des Plaines resolved a dispute with the Society of American Bosnians and Herzegovinians over the use of property at 1645 Birchwood Avenue in Des Plaines. The Society and the City have expressed appreciation that all issues between the parties have now been resolved. The City has also settled all claims brought by the federal government. The Society, the City, and the federal government will dismiss all lawsuits related to this matter. More information is available here.
