Recycling and Refuse Collection

If you have comments or questions for the Recycling and Refuse Department,
please send an email to kdpb@desplaines.org

Refuse and recycling services are provided by ARC Disposal and Recycling.  Call 847-981-0091 between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

Garbage must be placed in plastic bags or containers with a capacity not to exceed 32 gallons.  Containers need to have a lid and handles.  Bags and containers must weigh less than 50 pounds when filled.  Anything larger than 32 gallons, or more than 50 pounds, will not be collected.

New Refuse and Recycling Program in Spring 2007

In spring of 2007, the City of Des Plaines, in conjunction with ARC Disposal, introduced a new and improved method of collecting refuse and recyclables. Each single-family residence received (1) 95-gallon cart for refuse and (1) 65-gallon cart for recycling. There is no change in the yard waste program.

Along with the carts, ARC Disposal attached a brochure outlining the details of the new program and the proper manner to place carts for collections. Please do not throw away this important brochure!

The City of Des Plaines is excited about this new program and the many benefits it will bring to the community. Carts are safer, cleaner, have attached covers to prevent any material from littering the streets, have greater stability, are more impervious to animals or insects, and neighborhoods become attractive. In addition, communities that have instituted cart programs have witnessed significant increases in amounts of recycling material collected.

If residents have any questions, please contact ARC Disposal at 847-981-0091 or Public Works at 847-391-5650.
