Healthy Communities - Healthy Youth Task Force
The HC - HY Task Force will create
an environment that helps young people develop assets and achieve
their goals. They will be listened to, empowered to share their
ideas, and supported by adults, to learn and build productive
lives of their own. Every young person will then be seen as an
individual possessing gifts that will enhance his/her life, and
the quality of life within our community.
The Task Force will assess our community’s youth on attitudes
and behaviors and advocate developmental assets…qualities critical
for young people’s successful growth and development. HC - HY will:
- Develop awareness of the importance of asset- building for
the future. The more assets young people experience, the more
they engage in positive behaviors.
- Develop community initiatives that communicate the
asset-building framework.
- Connect our community’s youth with resources that provide:
ongoing relationships with caring adults, safe places and
structured activities, a healthy start, marketable skills and
opportunities to serve.
Intergenerational Task Force
- This Task Force is designed to bridge the generation gap
between youth and elders in Des Plaines. Primary goals are to:
- Promote intergenerational understanding and dialogue among
individuals and agencies in Des Plaines.
- Foster a sense of intergenerational cooperation among
residents.
- Provide opportunities to unite children, teens, adults, and
older adults in common goals and projects.
Neighbors Helping Neighbors Task Force

neighborhood volunteers for short-term, non-professional
assistance.
Neighbors Helping Neighbors:
- Recruits volunteers of all ages who are reliable and have a
willingness to help others.
- Assists volunteers in selecting tasks on the basis of
ability, frequency of service, time and preference.
- Links individuals in need of professional, and/or
longer-term needs, to agencies that provide such services.
- Operates through a main hub office that can be reached by
residents in need or prospective volunteers by calling
847-593-2849
