Engineering Department Program Objectives
 The capital
improvements proposed for construction in 2008 are identified in the
5-Year Capital Improvement Program at a cost of $10.4 million.
Sources of revenue for the C.I.P. presently include the General
Improvement Fund ($4.6 million), Motor Fuel Tax Fund ($1.3 million),
Water Fund ($730,000) and federal and state grants ($2.2 million).
The following types of projects and their approximate funding
levels will be recommended to the City Council during C.I.P.
discussions for 2008: Street Rehabilitation ($706,278), Street
Resurface ($247,549), Street Reconstruction ($471,200),
Sewer/Drainage System Improvements ($1.9 million), Water System
Improvements ($2.4 million), Sidewalk and Curb Improvements ($2.2
miilion), Traffic Signal Improvements ($700,000), Sound wall
($500,000) and Engineering Services ($950,000)
 Also
in 2008, the Department will be working with a number of regional
agencies to coordinate their projects during the programming and
design phases of the improvements. Those projects include Levee 50
Project-Phase III, Big Bend Reservoir, Tri-State Tollway widening,
Railroad Grade Separation at Algonquin Road, Des Plaines River Road
Reconstruction, Riverwalk and various other projects.
