Demolition

  1. A permit application must be completed and brought in with two (2) copies of a current Plat of Survey indicating location of structure (s) to be demolished.
  2. Cook County EPA permit may be required. A waiver of permit can also be obtained from the CC EPA (see EPA packet). This is an owner responsibility and could result in penalties from Cook County if you do not comply with the CC EPA requirements. The City is not responsible for your failure to comply with these requirements. The City does not verify the issuance of a CC EPA permit, if required.
  3. There will be a $350 charge for cut-off of City water services; a cash bond of $500.00 will be required for a demo of a Single Family Residence. It will be refunded when a Building Inspector has passed a final demo inspection.
  4. You must contact the City of Des Plaines Water Department to request water meter, water service and sewer cut-offs 847-391-5320 or Public Works at 847-391-5466.
  5. Verification IN WRITING is required from all utility companies, indicating that services have been removed:

Final inspection to approve demolition. Removal of all debris and grading is required.

Call JULIE, Joint Utility Locating Information for Excavators, at 1-800-892-0123 to locate utilities. JULIE is a free service.

Be advised that the above mentioned are guidelines to follow. Each and every permit is treated individually and certain other categories of requirements may apply. Once the above information is submitted, the determination can be made.
