Strategic Plan
Strategic Plan
Strategic planning is an organization's process of defining its
strategy, or direction, and making decisions on allocating its
resources to pursue this strategy, including its capital and people.
The corresponding document is called a Strategic Plan.
Strategic planning is a preferred approach to guiding a municipal
organization’s future. In order to determine where it is going, a
municipality needs to know exactly where it stands, then determine
where it wants to go and how it will get there. Rather than making
ad-hoc decisions on an issue-by-issue basis, a Strategic Plan
assists and guides a municipality in determining its future as a
community and government.
In the summer of 2009, Des Plaines elected officials participated
in two strategic planning sessions that resulted in the development
of a series of goals and priorities. Those goals and priorities were
used by the City staff as they compiled the 2010 budget and will
continue to be utilized in planning future projects.
The 2009 Strategic Plan is now complete and is posted on this
page for your information. If you have any questions about the
strategic planning process, you can contact the City Manager’s
Office at 847-391-5488.
