2009 Press Release: Self Help Closet Receives Special Donation In
Memory of DP Resident Nancy Nazarowski
For immediate release
November 24, 2009
Before Des Plaines resident Nancy Nazarowski passed away from
heart complications on November 5, 2009 she told her husband that
she had a request- instead of flowers at her funeral service, she
wanted donations for those in need to be contributed to the Des
Plaines Self Help Closet and Food Pantry, 600 E. Algonquin Road. On
November 23, 2009 Nancy’s husband Anthony, family members, friends,
Des Plaines Mayor Martin J. Moylan, 8th Ward Alderman Rosemary
Argus, who helped coordinate the family’s efforts, and Self Help
Closet staff unloaded bags and bags of food and clothing given in
memory of Nancy Nazarowski. Family members have decided that every
year they will conduct a Self Help Closet food and clothing drive in
honor of their loved one. According to Anthony Nazarowski, his wife
was always looking to help the less fortunate through the Self Help
Closet and the City’s Mitten Tree Program.

Rose Pittro, Nazarowski’s neighbor, Grace Cassaidy,
Nancy’s great niece, Lisa Cassaidy, niece, Christine Kawalek, niece,
Charlie Kawalek, Nancy’s great nephew, Matthew Cassaidy, great
nephew, 8th Ward Alderman Rosemary Argus, Self Help and Food Pantry
Community Resource Director Debra Walusiak, Mayor Martin J. Moylan,
Barb Sanasardo, sister, and Anthony Nazaroski, Nancy’s husband, pose
for a photograph at the Self Help Closet where they brought items
collected in memory of Nancy Nazarowski. For additional information
on the Self Help Closet call 847-375-1443.
