2009 Press Release: Arts Council Scholarship Recipients June 2009

Members of the Des Plaines Arts Council awarded their 2009 scholarship recipients at the June 15, 2009 Des Plaines City Council Meeting. Mayor Martin J. Moylan and members of the Des Plaines City Council were pleased to congratulate the twelve recipients.

Arts Council Scholarship Recipients

Scholarship winners not pictured are Jessica Bieniarz (Maine East High School), Megan Franke (Forest Elementary School), Jacqueline Ortiz (Algonquin Middle School), and Elizabeth Stenholt (Iroquois Middle School).

The twelve students were awarded scholarships out of 78 applicants. Scholarships totaled approximately $4,000. Every January scholarship applications are available from the Mayor’s Office, 1420 Miner Street or the Leisure Center at 2222 Birch St. and Prairie Lakes, 515 Thacker. Applications are also available through schools and fine arts teachers. Applicants must be in grades 4-12 and studying fine, performing or literary arts including painting, writing, sculpture, dance, etc. Des Plaines Arts Council representatives present at the June 15, 2009 City Council Meeting were Donna Catlett, Treasurer, Linda Traina President , Diane Macewicz, Secretary and Directors Christy Piszkiewicz and Donald Gloor.
