2008 Press Release: Mayor Declares October as National Arts and
Humanities Month
For immediate release
October 8, 2008
Des Plaines Mayor Tony Arredia recently
declared October as National Arts and Humanities Month. Linda Traina,
President of the Des Plaines Arts Council, visited the Mayor’s
Office in Des Plaines City Hall to receive the proclamation signed
by Mayor Tony Arredia. The proclamation states, "The arts and
humanities affect every aspect of life in America today including
the economy, social problem solving, job creation, education,
creativity, and community livability." The President of the United
States, along with 40,000 cultural organizations, the National
Endowment for the Arts, the national Endowment for the Humanities,
the nation’s 5,000 local art agencies, and the arts and humanities
councils of the 50 states and US jurisdictions recognize the month’s
