2008 Press Release: Des Plaines Thinks Green!
For immediate release
October 7, 2008
The Des Plaines Public Works Department is
"going green" with their cleaning products! Matt Duskett, Des
Plaines Director of Public Works, Katharine Hanzlik, Assistant to
the Public Works Director, and 6th Ward Alderman Mark Walsten, who
has been involved in the City’s "green" initiatives, recently met
with Patrick Muldoon, Vice President of Sales, Onyx Enviro
Solutions. The City has purchased "green" cleaning products from the
Chicago based company, Onyx Enviro," an eco-friendly single-source
provider of facility supplies for a vast array of commercial
industries… Currently, the company serves a cross section of
government agencies, industrial and retail enterprises… carrying
everything from light bulbs to bath tissues…"
One of the cleaning products that the City will be using at City
Hall, the Public Works Garage and the Police Department, is a liquid
solution composed of hydrogen peroxide and citrus oil. It is capable
of cleaning a multitude of surfaces and materials, "95% of a
facility with 2 dilutions." According to Muldoon, "H2Orange2," as it
is called, reduces toxicity without sacrificing effectiveness,
destroys odors during the cleaning process, eliminates grease and
minimizes slips on floors, and cleans effectively without ammonia or
alcohol.
