2008 Press Release: City To Distribute Compact Fluorescent Bulbs (CFLs)
For immediate release
April 18, 2008
The City of Des Plaines will be distributing free
COMPACT FLUORESCENT LIGHT BULBS (CFLs) to corporate residents
during regular working hours at the Cashier’s Counter, Des Plaines
City Hall, 1420 Miner Street, and at the Public Service Desk of the
Des Plaines Public Library, 1501 Ellinwood Street beginning Tuesday,
April 22, 2008. A supply of the bulbs, which are being used to
reduce energy and prevent greenhouse gas emissions, was made
available to Des Plaines as a member of the Metropolitan Mayors
Caucus through a grant from the Northern Illinois Energy Project (NIEP)
and the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (NIEP).
Bulbs will be distributed, while supplies last, to Des Plaines
residents showing identification indicating name and address. A
limit of three light bulbs will be given per household per location
and event. An information packet regarding using CFLs, including
recycling the bulbs, will be available at the distribution
locations. In acknowledgement of Earth Day, Tuesday, April 22, 2008,
the Des Plaines Library will staff a green light bulb distribution
table. Residents are encouraged to stop by.
In addition to distribution sites at Des Plaines City Hall and
the Public Library, the bulbs will be made available at
various DEEP GREEN
Des Plaines events, which will be posted on this page.
