The Des Plaines Public Works Department has announced that they
will be competing nationally in the Cans For Cash Recycling
Challenge. The Program, sponsored by the United States Conference of
Mayors and Novelis Corporation, in partnership with Keep America
Beautiful Inc., rewards Cities for recycling used aluminum beverage
cans.
Residents may help by making sure their used aluminum cans get
into their recycling bins on their regularly scheduled collection
day during the month of October. Communities, placed in categories
based on population, are rewarded with cash prizes for collecting
the most tonnage of aluminum. In the past, Des Plaines won $5,000
for collecting the most aluminum for a community its size.
While Des Plaines Public Works promotes recycling throughout the
year, the Cans For Cash Recycling Program focuses on the month of
October as the time to measure aluminum recycling collections.
Residents are encouraged to participate.
