2007 Press Release: July 4th Spells Success in Des Plaines

Chris Pesche of Pesche' Flower Shop Gifts & Greenhouses,
Inc.,waves to the crowd from the Parade Marshal's float during
the July 4th Parade. Businessman Frank Pesche was the honored
Parade Marshall. Pesche's, a longtime Des Plaines business, was
celebrated for their community support and local history.

Local veterans, representing various factions of military
service, marched in the Des Plaines July 4 Parade that kicked
off at 10 AM. The Special Events Commission coordinated the July
4th event that brought out thousands of people and concluded
with a fireworks show by the "Mad Bomber."

Thousands came out to celebrate Independence Day, July 4th in Des
Plaines as the Special Events Commission hosted a fun-filled day of
activities that started with the traditional Parade, kicking off at
10:00 am, and ended with fireworks at Oakton Community College.
This year’s July 4th theme was "All American Pastimes" and parade
units were decorated accordingly. The Parade Marshal was Frank
Pesche from Pesche’s Flower Shop Gifts & Greenhouses, Inc., a
longtime Des Plaines business celebrated for their community support
and local history.
Immediately following the parade the traditional Des Plaines
Historical Society’s Ice Cream Social was held on the grounds of the
historic 1907 Kinder House, 789 Pearson St. Keyboard musican Hap
Holly entertained the crowds from the porch. Many visitors stopped
in the Visitor Center to check out the new exhibit "40 Years of
Collecting.
At 4:00 pm the grounds at Oakton Community College, 1600 E. Golf
Rd., opened for picnicking, children’s games, pony rides and face
painting. The Des Plaines Historical Society sold picnic food. A
Dixieland Band performed, followed by the Cook County Jazz
Commission and the Des Plaines Park District’s Community Concert
Band. Members of the Jesse White Tumblers entertained. A Petting
Zoo, Patch 22, was featured, along with a miniature train ride for
kids. A fantastic firework show, provided by the Mad Bomber,
concluded the July 4th events in Des Plaines, which were directed by
Special Events Commissioner Carol Shannon.
