Police Youth Programs

Thanks for your interest in one or more of the centers of the Youth Club, sponsored by the Des Plaines Police.  The Youth Club is open to all boys and girls from age 12 through High School that reside in the City of Des Plaines.

The Des Plaines Police Boys Club was formed in 1955 by officers of the police department due to complaints by area youths that they had nothing to do during the evening hours.  The local school district was contacted and they offered the use of their gymnasium one night a week to be used for sporting activities.  Here we are years later and have grown from that one initial center into three separate centers that have a combined yearly membership of approximately 120 youth.  The name of the club was even changed from the Police Boys Club to the Police Youth Club when a center for girls opened twelve years ago.

The Youth Club gives you an opportunity to meet with Des Plaines Police Officers in an informal setting which helps to develop a positive attitude toward what the police officers are like and what they stand for.  By attending weekly meetings and assisting civic groups and activities, such as the Keep Des Plaines Beautiful and the Optimist Christmas Tree delivery day, members accumulate points which allow them to attend special events.  The culmination of the year is a  7 day camping trip.

The cost for you to join the Youth Club is $10.00 a year.  Part of this money is used to pay for a pizza party at the club later in the year, and the rest pays for the purchase of a Des Plaines Police Youth Club T-Shirt.  It is the desire of the officers of the Youth Club that all members wear the T-Shirt when attending the various activities throughout the year.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact any of the officers (or civilians) that are listed with their particular center or Sgt. Tim Veit, Youth Club Director, at  847-391-5430.
