Special Events: Sound of Music Showing at Theater

The originally-scheduled show time for 5:00 pm on Saturday, June 27 has been cancelled.  Both of the other show times will still take place as scheduled

Sound of Music Showing at TheaterDes Plaines 6th Ward Alderman Mark Walsten, who heads up the City’s Deep Green Committee, has announced that the 5:00 pm performance of The Sound Of Music movie, originally scheduled for Saturday, June 27, 2009 at the Des Plaines Theater, 1476 Miner Street, has been cancelled.   Show times are 7:00 pm, Friday and Saturday, June 26 and 27, 2009. Tickets are $5 at the door.

The 1965 musical classic movie involves a woman who leaves an Austrian convent to become a governess to a Naval Officer widower.

Alderman Walsten, Mary Rohde and Tim Hardt are some of the members of the environmentally oriented Deep Green Committee who have been working on the theater project. Walsten coordinated the movie series with the cooperation of Des Plaines Theater Owner Dhitu Bhagwater.

"We encourage families to come out to see this movie. It’s a great night out at a reasonable expense, it benefits a very good cause and it brings people to our downtown. The Deep Green Committee invites everyone to come and be a part of a movement to bring environmental awareness to our community while experiencing the vintage Des Plaines Theater," Alderman Walsten said.
