Special Events: February Events at the History Center

On Thursday, February 12 from 1:30-2:30 pm the History Center will host its monthly Coffee Talk program. February's topic will be "Antique Dolls" with a presentation by Gigi Williams of Gigi's Dolls & Sherry's Teddy Bears, Inc. Williams will share some of her 26 years of doll expertise and display some dolls from her store. Participants are invited to bring their own dolls that they have questions about. The program is free of charge and will be held in the Visitor Center, 781 Pearson Street. No registration is required for this program.

In celebration of Abraham Lincoln's 200th birthday, the History Center's School Day Off program on Monday, February 16th will be "Lincoln Mania!" in which children will make Lincoln beards and stove pipe hats. "Lincoln Mania" will be held from 1-3pm in the History Center's Visitor Center, 781 Pearson Street. The cost is $1.00 per child for non-members and free for members. No advance registration required. This program is geared toward children ages 5-12, and an adult must accompany children to this program.

The History Center's Monthly Home-School program will be held on Wednesday, February 18, with one hour sessions at 10:00 am and 1:00 pm.  February's program will be "Native Americans" and will feature reproduction artifacts, fur pelts and a model wigwam, plus children will make a Native American game. Registration is required for this program by calling 847-391-5399. The program is geared toward children ages 5-12, and an adult must accompany children to programs.

Supported by the City of Des Plaines, the Des Plaines Park District, and the Des Plaines Historical Society, the Des Plaines History Center consists of three facilities, the Visitor Center, the Kinder House, and the Fisher-Wright House.
