Police Explorers Car
Wash Fundraiser
The Des Plaines Police Department’s Police Explorer Post 142 will
host a car wash 1:00 - 5:00 pm, Sunday, June 28, 2009, at Des
Plaines Car Wash, 513 S. River Road.
The car wash serves as a fundraising event for the Police
Explorer Post with proceeds going towards the cost of attending a
statewide competition in August.
Explorers are young adults who aspire to careers in law
enforcement. Advisors and other police officers volunteer their time
to train these young people. Explorers receive training in traffic
accident investigations, handling domestic disputes, processing
crime scenes, building searches and arrest techniques. Explorer Post
members utilize this training and experience in competitions with
members of other law enforcement posts. Every year they attend a
state or national conference at which they compete and learn
valuable skills. Sworn officers judge the Explorer Scouts’ knowledge
of police procedures and their response to simulated police calls
during the competitive phase.
"We encourage everyone to come out and let our Des Plaines Police
Explorers wash their car on June 28. It goes to a good cause. Many
of these young people end up in law enforcement careers. The Des
Plaines Police Explorer Program is a great opportunity for youth to
experience the inner workings of law enforcement," Police Commander
and Explorer Post Advisor William Prim said.
