Patrons visit the Des Plaines Theater to enjoy a movie, as well as assist Deep Green with fundraising efforts. The Des Plaines Deep Green Committee invites the public to their recently launched movie series at the Des Plaines Theater, 1476 Miner Street. This weekend, Deep Green is pleased to announce the showing of Arctic Tale at 7:00 pm, Friday, May 29, 2009 and 3:00 and 7:00 pm, Saturday, May 30, 2009. Des Plaines 6th Ward Alderman Mark Walsten, who heads up the City’s Deep Green Committee, has announced that the movie ARCTIC TALE, will be shown at 7:00 pm, Friday, May 29, 2009 and 3:00 and 7:00 pm, Saturday, May 30, 2009 at the Des Plaines Theater, 1476 Miner Street, as part of Deep Green Committee’s fundraising efforts. Tickets are $5 at the door.

The movie follows a walrus and a polar bear from birth to maturity and parenthood in the frozen wilderness of the Great North. These magnificent creatures’ world was once a perpetual winter wonderland of snow and ice, but now they face extinction as their icebound world melts from underneath them.

Alderman Walsten, along with Mary Rohde and Tim Hardt, comprise the environmentally oriented Deep Green Committee. Walsten coordinated the movie series with the cooperation of Des Plaines Theater Owner Dhitu Bhagwater.

"We encourage families to come out to see this movie. It’s a great night out at a reasonable expense, it benefits a very good cause and it brings people to our downtown. The Deep Green Committee invites everyone to come and be a part of a movement to bring environmental awareness to our community while experiencing the vintage Des Plaines Theater," Alderman Walsten said.
