Abe Lincoln Exhibit Opens at History Center
The Des Plaines History Center announces the opening of a new
mini-exhibit about Abraham Lincoln. Titled, "Abe Lincoln Never Slept
Here," the exhibit features photographs of the 16th President in
various Des Plaines locations. Visitors will enjoy trying to figure
out where Abe is posed while learning interesting facts about
Lincoln's life. Stop by often to see new photos added to the exhibit
throughout its run. "Abe Lincoln Never Slept Here" is open in the
Visitor Center, 781 Pearson Street, through April 15 and can be
toured, free of charge, during regular operating hours.
An exhibit opening party will be held from 1:00 - 4:00 pm on
Sunday, February 22 in the Visitor Center. Free cake will be served
while supplies last. This event is free of charge.
The inspiration behind "Abe Lincoln Never Slept Here" was to
commemorate the 200th birthday of Abraham Lincoln by imagining
places the President might visit if he came to Des Plaines. At
present, there is no evidence that the former President visited Des
Plaines during his lifetime. The photographs on exhibit were taken
by Historical Society staff and volunteers by posing a full-sized
image of Lincoln at various Des Plaines locations.
Supported by the City of Des Plaines, the Des Plaines Park
District, and the Des Plaines Historical Society, the Des Plaines
History Center consists of three facilities, the Visitor Center, the
Kinder House, and the Fisher-Wright House. For more information
about programs and events, call 847-391-5399 or visit
