DEEP Green (Des
Plaines Environmental and Energy Program) will host The first annual
Des Plaines Earth Day Youth Fair on Sunday, April 20 from 1:00 -
4:00 p.m. at Arndt Park Field House, 1990 White Street, in Des
Plaines.
The Earth Day celebration will feature educational skits, arts
and crafts projects, and displays designed to teach school age
children about the environment. Highlights include a 30-minute play
starring "Captain Recycle", along with a variety of hands-on
projects, such as paper-making, seed pots and a "Green Dream Tree".
Science projects from area students will also be on display and
several students will be recognized for their work.
Families will be able to take a self-assessment quiz to measure
their "greenness" at home, and there will be a bulb exchange program
in which residents will receive a free Energy efficient compact
fluorescent light bulb (CFL) in exchange for an incandescent bulb.
DEEP GREEN (Des Plaines Energy and Environmental Program) is an
ad hoc Committee chaired by 6th Ward Alderman Mark Walsten that
provides information on environmental issues to City Government and
