Day at the Races
Day at the Races Flyer
On Saturday, June 14, 2008 we will be holding our fifth annual
Day at the Races event at Arlington Park Race Course. This event is
our only fundraiser each year. Please help us by either purchasing
tickets to the event ($75-lunch event), providing prizes or sponsor
a basket ($200 each) for the auctions, or by making a full
tax-deductible charitable donation.
The Des Plaines Community Foundation has been in existence since
September 1997. The foundation was created to support the service
programs of the partnership whose activities improve the lives of
those that live and work in Des Plaines. An investment in our
efforts makes dollars and sense; every $1 donated yields $12 in
services, because volunteers carry out many of our programs. The
following are examples of the programs/services we support:
Over 300 Neighbors Helping Neighbors volunteer service matches
Three ramps built for local disabled low-income residents
22 special education students provided with real life work
experience
Launch of a new snow removal teen work program
A youth development day for over 100 local teens
Des Plaines Teen Center support for programming that serves
over 11,000 youth visits annually
Quarterly training opportunities to 31 Crisis Response Team
volunteers
Minor home improvement assistance to low-income and disabled
residents
Three safety lock emergency access boxes installed in homes of
low income elderly or disabled
