
Special Events: Super Star Volunteers Awards Program
Members of the Special Events Commission are pleased to announce
the Des Plaines Super Star Volunteer Award Nominees who will be
recognized at 6:00 pm, Thursday, April 26, 2007 at Casa Royale, 783
Lee St. Tickets for the Dinner are $26 per person and may be
obtained by calling the Office of the Mayor at
847-391-5312.
According to Gayle Mountcastle, Special Events Commission Member
and Chairman of the Super Star Volunteer Awards Program,
applications were received nominating the following for awards in
the following categories:
Business Leader Super Star
In recognition of a business that shows support for the community
through volunteer efforts or monetary contributions.

- ITW Fastex
- Mrs. V’s Restaurant
Family Super Star
A family will be honored whose efforts have brought outstanding
family values to the City of Des Plaines.

- Barbara & Pastor Reid
- The Schroeder Family
Young Super Star
In recognition of a citizen of Des Plaines, ages 12-18, who has
volunteered his or her time and talents to benefit others.

The Senior Super Star
An individual of group, 55 years of age or older, will be
recognized for volunteering to help mature citizens experience
quality activities.

Centers
- Des Plaines Community & Frisbie Senior Center’s Senior Council
Beautify Des Plaines Super Star
A group will be recognized for making a difference in the
beautification efforts of the community.

Good Neighbor Super Star
A neighbor who has been helpful and given to people around them.

Educator Super Star
This individual will be chosen based on the positive affect they
have had based on their volunteer efforts outside the classroom

Youth Group Super Star
This youth group has had a positive affect on the community by
giving of their time and talent, or through monetary contributions
for a good cause.
- Des Plaines Public Library Teen Advisory Board
- Maine West Key Club
Champion for Youth Superstar
Recognition to be given for a coach or other youth leader who is
an exemplary role model, promotes sportsmanship and positive
experiences for youth and parents.
Fine Arts Super Star
Recognition will be given to an individual who has contributed
significantly to the cultural life of the community either through
music, art, literature, or other form of artistic endeavor.

Nomination applications were distributed at various
locations throughout the City and were made available on the City’s
website.
Tickets for the Special Events Commission’s Super Star Volunteer
Awards Program, which are limited, may be purchased through the
mail. Checks should be made payable to the City of Des Plaines, with
"Super Star Volunteer Awards Dinner" designated in the memo portion
of the check. Checks should be mailed to the Office of the Mayor,
City of Des Plaines, 1420 Miner St., Des Plaines, Illinois 60016.
