The Foundation’s Board has determined that funds will be awarded
to a variety of programs and identified community needs. The Des
Plaines Healthy Community Programs currently supported include:
Healthy Communities Healthy Youth Program Committee
The HC/HY Program Committee helps to create an environment for
young people to develop assets and achieve their goals. They will
be listened to, empowered to share their ideas, and supported by
adults, which in return will enhance his/her life, and the quality
of life within our community. Both the Teen Center and involvement
in the Youth Commission offer youth support and promote structured
activities.
Intergenerational Program Committee
This Program Committee is designed to bridge the generation gap
between youth and elders in Des Plaines. Through promotion of
intergenerational understanding and dialogue the committee
provides opportunities to unite children, teens, adults, and older
adults in common goals and projects.
Neighbors Helping Neighbors Program Committee
This program committee links community volunteers with
residents with various needs i.e. transportation to medical
appointments, personal shopping, yard and home care, installation
of emergency response boxes, wheel chair ramps, etc. Neighbors
Helping Neighbors operates through a main hub office that can be
reached by residents in need or prospective volunteers by calling
888-646-8898.
Seasons of Service Program Committee
The goal of the Seasons of Service Program Committee is to
mobilize people of all ages who live and/or work in Des Plaines
for the purpose of public service by presenting continuous
opportunities every season for people to volunteer their time and
talents in service projects and activities.
